How to Calculate Days Between Two Dates

To find the number of days between two dates, subtract the earlier date from the later date. In mathematical terms, if you represent dates as integers (days since a fixed epoch, like 1 January 1970), you simply subtract one from the other.

Example: From 1 January 2024 to 1 January 2025 = 366 days (2024 is a leap year).

Calendar Days vs. Workdays

Calendar days include every day of the week — Monday through Sunday. Workdays (business days) exclude Saturdays and Sundays. This calculator provides both counts automatically.

Workdays are important for legal deadlines, project timelines, payroll periods, and delivery estimates. Note that public holidays are not excluded in this calculator — adjust for your specific country's holidays manually.

How to Add or Subtract Days from a Date

Switch to "Add / Subtract Days" mode. Enter your base date, then specify how many years, months, and/or days to add or subtract. The result updates instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days are in a year?

A regular (non-leap) year has 365 days. A leap year has 366 days. Leap years occur every 4 years, except for years divisible by 100 (which are not leap years unless also divisible by 400). For example: 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not.

How do I calculate a deadline from today?

Use the "Add / Subtract Days" mode. Set the base date to today, then add the required number of days. For example, to find what date falls 45 days from today, set Days = 45 and click Add.

What is the difference between UTC and local time for dates?

This calculator works with calendar dates only (no time component), so time zones do not affect results. All calculations use midnight-to-midnight day boundaries.
